102 Visa: ADOPTION VISA
The subclass 102 visa or ‘Adoption visa’ (subclass 102) allows a child to come to Australia to live with their adoptive parent. The child can already be adopted or be in the process of being adopted. The child must be outside of Australia when the application is lodged and when the visa is granted.
This visa grants the successful applicant the right to travel to and stay in Australia indefinitely, work and study, enroll in Medicare, apply for Australian citizenship when they become eligible and sponsor eligible relative for permanent residence.
The applicant will have to meet certain age, health and character requirements, must be living outside of Australia, and either already be adopted or in the process of being adopted. The parents or sponsor must also meet eligibility requirements regarding their citizenship, and regarding the legitimacy of the adoption process.
The parents or sponsor may also be required to provide an assurance of support.
