485 VISA: TEMPORARY GRADUATE
The subclass 485 visa is for international students who have recently graduated from an Australian educational institution. It allows them to work in Australia temporarily after they have finished their studies.
Who Is Eligible For The 485 Visa?
An applicant may be eligible for this visa if they:
- Are younger than 50 years of age
- Are in Australia
- Hold an eligible visa
- Meet the two-year Australian study requirement
- Have met English requirement
What Are The Other Requirements Of The 485 Visa?
The applicant must be currently holding an eligible student visa to apply for this visa. Alternatively the applicant may have held a visa in the last six months and is now holding a bridging visa.
This visa has two streams:
- Option 1: Graduate Work stream
- Option 2: Post-Study Work stream
Option 1: Graduate Work stream
This is for international students with an eligible qualification who graduated with skills and qualifications that related to an occupation on the skilled occupation list. A visa in this stream is granted for 18 months.
Option 2: Post-Study Work stream
This is for international students who graduate with a higher education degree from an Australian education provider, regardless of their field of study. This stream is only available to those students who were granted their first student visa to Australia after 5 November 2011. A visa in this stream can be granted for up to 4 years from the date the visa is granted, depending on the qualifications of the applicant.
The applicant and everyone included in this application must be in Australia when they lodge the visa and when the visa is granted.
The applicant must meet certain health, character and insurance requirements.
What Are The Benefits?
Family members of the applicant can be included in the visa application, as long as they fulfil the requirements of being a member of the family unit.
These family members must also show that they meet health and character requirements.
This visa grants the applicant and their family the right to live, work and study in Australia for the duration of the visa, and the freedom to travel in and out of Australia.
Visa Charges
The base government charge for this visa is $1650 AUD plus extra charges for each additional person included on the application.
